Lenten Opportunities at SEAS

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church Posted on March 9, 2025 by SEASMarch 9, 2025

Lent in 3 Minutes

The Minimum Lenten Observance

Abstinence: All Catholics who have reached their 14th birthday are bound to abstain totally from meat on the following days: Ash Wednesday, all Fridays of Lent and Good Friday.

Fasting: All Catholics between their 18th and 59th birthdays are also bound to observe the Law of Fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. This practice involves limiting oneself to a single full meal and avoiding food between meals. Light sustenance may be taken on two other occasions in the course of the day.

Self-denial: Is encouraged voluntarily. Acts might include daily Mass, spiritual study, Lenten devotions, the Rosary, deeds of kindness etc.

Lenten Schedule

Weekday Masses: Thursday & Friday 7 AM

Taize Prayer: Sundays of Lent at 6:30 PM

Stations of the Cross: Fridays at 12:15 PM

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament: Friday 7:30 – Noon

Rosary for Peace: Third Thursday of each month at 5:30 PM

Sacrament of Reconciliation: Sunday after 10 AM Mass

Lenten Evening Prayer

Taize Prayer

Taizé prayer services begin this weekend, on Sunday, March 9th at 6:30 pm at SEAS church and will continue every Sunday evening during Lent.
Each will last about 40 minutes and will blend song, silence and Scripture into a service appropriate for Christians of any denomination. Please join us!

Soup and Scripture

A six-week bible study will begin on Wednesday, March 12th and continue for the next 6 consecutive Wednesdays. The book we will follow is titled “Relating to Others as Jesus Would” by Kevin Perotta of Loyola Press. Books will be available at the first session, for a cost of $10.00. Soup and bread will be served at 6:30 pm. Coffee, tea and water provided. The scripture study will begin at 7:00 pm.

Please call the Central Office (716-366-2306) to register. All sessions will take place in the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish meeting room. Please sign up at the Central Office as soon as possible so the committee can make the necessary plans. Please consider this Lenten spiritual opportunity.
