St. Mary’s Cemetery is located on Rt. 60, Bennett Rd. in the Town of Dunkirk and serves as the focal point for families who hand their deceased loved ones over to God’s Embrace.
History
Early in the 1850’s the pastor and parishioners of the fledgling St. Mary’s Church decided that they needed a cemetery for their new parish. Land was purchased on Bennett Rd. and the first burial took place in August 1851. Eventually we acquired the adjacent “Potter’s Field”, originally designated for the poor and destitute. This consecrated land continues to point to our common belief in the resurrection of the body and serves as a focal point for families who hand their deceased loved ones over to God’s Embrace.
